Major Types and Signs of Depression
Depression mainly involves severe mood disorder and mood swings. Mood changes and swings commonly affects the way victims think and feel towards activities and how they handle and carry out activities. Depression is diagnosed mainly after a period of two weeks since many signs and symptoms are seen after this period.
Many circumstances and actions can lead to depression. Persistent depressive disorder which lasts to a period of two years is one of the major type of depression. Symptoms are not very severe under the persistent depressive disorder but they remain to be seen within that range of time. One of the most severe forms of depression is the postpartum depression.
Mainly the postpartum depression is more serious than the depression resulting after giving birth which are caused by anxiety and mild depressive symptoms. The depression is common during the pregnancy and after delivering where one faces full brown depression. Sadness, fatigue and exhaustion and high levels of anxiety are expected in this type of depression. The mother faces a difficulty in handling the infant and herself.
Psychotic depression is another form of depression that results when there is an instance of depression mixed with instances of psychosis. Psychosis involves a disturbing moment of untrue views and beliefs. Hallucinations are common in psychotic depression where on hears untrue sounds and sees false images. Illness, delusions of poverty and guilt are a common psychotic signs.
Seasonal effective disorder is also a type of depression which is commonly characterized at the start of a depression onset like during the start of a winter season. When new seasons like the summer and spring come, the depression shifts. What results in this form of depression include public withdrawal, long sleeping periods, weight gain and heavy feeding. When the season ends then the depression ends.
One of the depression signs include a feeling of emptiness as a result of sadness and anxious moods. In depression, one faces a feeling of depression, guilt and helplessness. One is likely to find no interest and lack of pleasure in activities. Fatigue, exhaustion and lack of energy are also signs of depression and that greatly affects the victim.
There is very poor concentration, remembering and decision making when one is suffering from depression. Oversleeping is common in depression but some victims may have difficulties while sleeping. Depression can cause appetite shifts to low and high. Suicidal thoughts may arise under the more severe conditions of depression. Depression can lead to pains, headaches which are very disturbing.
